Music & AAC

We wanted to share something really amazing with you called MusAAC, a music and literacy group designed to help families with multimodal communicators improve their skills through music and books. Music brings people together and helps us connect in a special way. It's also been shown to be incredibly helpful for language development! When children participate in musical activities, they learn about rhythm and melody, which can make a big difference in their language skills. Additionally, music involves movement and gestures, which can help retain new language skills. What we love the most about MusAAC is that it creates a safe and supportive space for families to come together and learn from one another and model, model, model. It's all about building each other up and finding confidence in our communication skills.

Our Story

We met 6 years ago at the Therapy and Learning Center in Brooklyn, NY. Over the years, we have had many opportunities to collaborate and share our experiences. We truly believe that music therapy and speech therapy can complement each other well, and a combined approach can be especially effective when working with children with more complex communication needs. By combining our two therapeutic modalities, we can create a more comprehensive and holistic approach to communication development.

Brianna Jones MA, MT-BC

Brianna is a board certified music therapist and has worked in the field since 2015. She received her Bachelor of Science in music therapy from Molloy University (2015) and her Master of Arts in music therapy from Berklee College of Music (2019). She has been working with children with intellectual and developmental disabilities ranging from ages 2-14 years since the start of her career.

Her passion for music started from a young age and has developed into a career sharing it with others. Her main goal with her practice is to help people discover themselves through music. She currently focuses on developing communication skills, social emotional skills, self-esteem, and confidence with her clients.
